Item Material Types
« on: August 13, 2009, 09:38:21 pm »

Well I was hoping to get this information by looking at a different mod, but since apparently the mod was never publicly posted I'll have to bug you all with the question.

I know items can be restricted to hard or soft types, what I was wondering is if it is possible to set an item, weapon, or piece of clothing to only be made out of a certain type of material, say wood, leather, stone and only those materials.  If so how?

[LEATHER], [METAL], [BARRED] for leather/metal/scales or shells for armor.
Weapons are less flexible.

Any [HARD] thing may be made of wood (I think).

Computer genned characters will basically ignore any type of restriction that you place on an item if it is possible to get it, though.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

What are "computer genned characters"? Do you mean entity creatures? They won't ignore such restrictions as far as I know. Can you provide me any example of such thing?

I think he means NPC races, such as Elves making weapons out of Wood.

There's no restriction on wood for weapons, elves have a special WOOD_PREF tag which gives them such an ability.
All weapons are considered [METAL], [HARD].

I know NPC civs can decorate with things that you cannot; ex Encrusting with Magnetite, but i'm unsure if they ignore other restrictions or not.

Oh, if you mean encrusting, there may probably be some unusual things. I thought you told me about materials the items are crafted from.

Basically I'm looking for a way to restrict the type of materials that a toy can be made out of for starters.  I know weapons have some material tokens that can be used only if the weapons are trap components apparently, but do any tags besides HARD_MAT let you restrict the materials that a toy can be made of?  I was considering modding in a few toys in my version, different materials for different civs for a test, stone for dwarves, wood for elves, leather for goblins, and metal for humans.  At this point is that degree of specificity possible or am I just wasting my time trying to figure this out?
