Not if you're playing one soldier the whole game, I don't think.

If you were going to add a little comedic relief, you could be killing the occasional American supergjuggernaut tasked with singlehandedly liberating a prison compound (heh, or "liberating" some plans) that you surely remember playing as in some other game. :)

Not historically accurate though...

Not that's an angle you don't see enough of, running the army of mooks charged with holding off the bullet-absorbing super soldier the Good Guys send.  Reminds me of Perfect Dark...

I'm not talking about Concentration Camp Tycoon or anything.

Really?

http://tigsource.com/articles/2007/04/20/sim-stalag-preview

Admittedly its about Gulags so the USSR not Nazis but close.

I agree with the OP, there are some good films focusing on Nazi soldiers and officers and it could be done tastefully if they wanted to. How about playing as the Japanese? is that more or less controversial?

Ninjad: I think every one of us would love to play Concentration Camp Tycoon. Admit it. For the same reason you built prison islands in Rollercoaster Tycoon and drowned little children.
Dwarf Fortress.

I'd play all three.
A campaign with the original Magnificent Bastard? You could even end it with a covered up attack to rescue Romel! And that would be awesome.
The soviet one sounds pretty cool.
And I'm sure that we'd all like a deconstruction of FPSes.

Mind you, no developer in their right mind would do it. Except Toady. Maybe.

Grand Finale - The Battle of Berlin, minute to minute fight for survival as you and your cobbled together unit keep running West to find some Anglophones to surrender to before the Russians butcher you.

I prefer a frantic westward battle to surrender to the Americans instead of the Russians.  That's what my grandfather did.  And he made it, thank god.

As a bonus, it makes the Americans look good, which seems to be a requirement for all WWII games...

Oh, and there is the major problem of few video game developers knowing what Wehrmacht means.

Keep in mind that you are allowed to play Sim Stalag however you want. According to Radix: "You can run your camp however you like, and are judged at the end on military rank (how much you don’t piss off your superiors) and postwar status (how bad you don’t treat your guests).

It’s the player’s choice whether they treat it as a death camp or a resort, and both approaches have their challenges."

There is another game out there, KZ Manager, where you are in charge of an death camp and are expected to actually kill the POWs.

Personally, I would like a game where you get to play as a corrupt German military offical, working to help Germany take over Europe and become a major world power, while seeking to overthrow those barbaric National Socialists. You still owe an oath of loyalty to the State, but if Hitler mysteriously blows up and the Nazis get framed for the crime, then prehaps you could be persuaded to support a coup...

Alternatively, a Wehrmacht commander trying desperatly to fight off the Americans in France, with the main goal of securing a safe transport out of France into the jungles of South America so as to avoid war crime tribunals. That would be fun.

That's why I invented the concept of the Kreisau Circle in my failedEvolution Lite game (sorry!)...Let people play as Germans without the baggage of National Socialism.

It's a bit funny to see this kind of topic on forums of a game of pure racism, intolerance and killing of your own nobles and children in a communist fortress :D.

It is, only in the Marxian sense of Drawf Fortress being "primitive communism". The first stage of social strucutre, before classes arise.

And I can't delete this. SO, DON'T GO OFF TOPIC PEOPLE!

You can delete it, there's an "EDIT" button :).

Also, what's the resemblance between Servant Corps and Servant Crops?

"So let me get this straight....
"All production and labor is controlled by the state. Shops just take whatever they want from the state workshops, and sell. But all the prices are set by the state."
"Yep."
"How do you even survive?"
"Well, a couple years ago I made a pretty snazzy bracelet, so I'm exempt from it all."

Back on topic, I'm pretty sure any game developer doing WWII does enough research to know what Werhmacht means. They aren't THAT ignorant.

Case A. Red Alert 3.

You'd think that they'd bother to play the first 2 . . .

How about playing as the Japanese? is that more or less controversial?

I imagine that there are a lot of WWII games where you play as the Japanese, but they never get marketed outside of Japan for some reason.
