I had a marksdwarf kill a titan in one shot so I named him Titanslayer.  He then gets mortally wounded 2 stories up and behind a fortification by an elite bowgoblin.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Generally my expedition leader is a miner with some social skills. He is always working, sometimes to the point of ticking off the liaison. I tend to name these guys Machine both in honour of their extreme work ethic and to make it easier to pick them out of the crowd when migrants start showing up.

>.>; These guys usually  die horrifically, and usually due to mechanical (geddit?) mishaps. Admittedly, most of them are my fault.
Machine 1: on the wrong side of a floodgate.
Machine 2: Atom smashed.
Machine 3: Catapult smashed him and the goblin he was beating to death
Machine 4: Operation FTW (so named in honour of boatmurdered) burnt him to a crisp, largely due to my poor grasp of fluid mechanics at the time.
Machine 5: The only one to not have this problem. He got turned into a pincushion by goblins.
Machine 6: . . . There was a cave-in whilst I was trying to make a cave-in trap.
Machine 7: Still living. This is my current Fortress, though.

In the world I'm currently playing, there is an Elven civilization named The Fatal Beard. Think about that one for a while.
