And so, from the skies did it rain copious amounts of flaming death.

I can't help but get this mental image of Dwarves trying to drink the flaming rain.

It's the edge of the world. There are no rails here.

Except the ones that stop you from falling off of the edge of the world.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Or maybe is the havens started raining booze and the hell's fires covered the ground the only ones who could save us would be the dwarves before the booze hit the fire and boozesplosion occurred.  Instead millions of dwarves would be running around catching all the beer in their mouths before it hit the ground.

Then again, upon opening up the gateway to Hell, you'll get millions of cats running out, that might remedy the remedy, and either be the most underwhelming sight to behold, the funniest sight to behold, or the most terrifying sight to behold, or all of the above.

In the TRUE Dwarven hell, the millions of cats would then set off a THERMONUCLEAR CATSPLOSION!!!

And the cat chunks spread all over the place by the thermonuclear catsplosion would grow into cats, which would, themselves, explode.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

That's what that reminds me of, but more accurately this does: Scratchtasia

Can you imagine what that would do to your FPS, though.
