Corpses in cages
« on: August 11, 2009, 07:36:18 pm »

Well, I just bought a whole bunch of cages off of the traders. They get hauled to the animal stockpile, and there I discover they're all full of dead animals. I bought the cages for 10-30 dwarfbucks, so they weren't alive when they hit the depot. So what killed them, as I thought cages shielded the occupants from the outside world?

And also, is there a way to empty them? :P

Thanks

The elves are real smart and end up bringing some animals into climates where they can't exist, I've been scolded before on how traders are non-existent in the game world until they are on your map, so I'm unsure how this ends up happening, because my animals never have trouble with any climate I go to. :/

I think the only way to empty them is to designate the corpse for dumping.
You can do it with the mass designate (d-b-d) and then undesignate the cages, or look (k) at the cage, hit enter, hit enter again to see the item in the cage and hit dump (d) to dump it.

Of course you'll need a garbage dump set up.

Not trade-animals, apparently.

They can also show up with crippling wounds (the type that don't heal) - it's suspected this is from frost/cold damage, but that's an unproven theory.
