Planet Dune
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:57:32 pm »

Was wanting to know what biome I needed to play in so I could have water, every map I have played on all the water has completely vanished after 2 years. Started a new one today, 'warm' temperature, and there were 14 very large lakes, alot of them over 30 tiles, with all of them being 7/7 and every drop of water vanished in the 30 minutes I played it.

At one of my older forts, I had a cat with a kobold kill to it's name, I locked a kobold into a small pit and then kept tossing cats in till it died.....For Science!

Try embarking on a temperate area. The warm area is the reason for the evaporation.

You want temperate, warm and hot will evaporate the water, and if you really want water it's best to embark with a river/brook, endless water source. Be careful not to embark next to a ocean as then all water is salt and you have to have a elaborate desalination plant to make it drinkable.

By "elaborate desalination plant" he means "single pump dumping water into a cistern".

Also, was anyone else hoping this thread involved giant sandworms? :/

That would be an awesome mod. Especially if the worms can dig into soil layers.

Might be fun to play in a world with only underground water pools and after 7-8 sand layers comes rock... and not a tree in sight.

We might get some complaining elves because we cut to many trees.
