I have a theory...

Why not build a resource generator? Maybe also a fleet of construction robots? Having a fully automated "base" giving a constant income of resource and automating construction would surely help. Especially as you wold have the supplies and labour to produce any structure you could think of, such as a forge to assist in weapon/armor production, or preferably an automated rapid prototyper, only many times better, and not so much a prototyper as a generic object construction machine...

Lauren sets the generator to give a bomus in Searching.
Also, approximately how big is the generator? If small enough to carry she takes it with her while she goes out searching for further useful stuff.
If not, she hides it hearby the tent and only searches with in sigt distance of said tent.
