I just looked it up. Theology is the most expensive at 500, and enables the theocracy civic and first to discover it gets Christianity. Metal Casting is the second most expensive at 450, and lets you build triremes and a forge, and the workshop improvement. It also lets you build the Bronze Colossus, which increases the money gained from coastal tiles. Code of Laws lets you build courthouses, enables the caste civic, and first to discover gets Confucianism.

I think it's a choice between Theology and Code of Laws, maybe. If you think you're fast enough, you might go for Theology, and then Code of Laws, because Metal Casting doesn't look that interesting for a free technology.

If thats the case, choose theology if Christianity isn't formed yet.

Turn 74, 1040 BC:
We used the Oracle to learn the secrets of theology...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And thus discovering Christianity:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I now have a choice of civics between Organized religion, 25% faster building of buildings in cities with the state religion, or theocracy 2 bonus experience points in cities with state religion. For now I will leave it on organized as we don't yet need the experience points. Though if we ever go to war...

Turn 76, 975 BC:
A great prophet by the name of Kobo-Daishi was born in the city of Old Beard Halls, I am sending him for Bay Twelve as that is our current center of religion. There he can build a Kashi Vishwanath which will give us one gold per turn for every city with Hinduism around the world.

Turn 78, 925 BC:
Brilliant!

Turn 86, 725BC:
Gah barbarians at the borders!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
There is this group here and another group just north of marble pigs. Also I am going to switch my religion from Hinduism to Judaism seeing as both Mansa Musa and Lincon have adopted it, another reason is that Old Beard Halls only being Jewish.
I was going to send the settler that I just built out in that direction but the barbarian menace is preventing me from doing so. Ah well I can wait a few turns. Over the past few turns I have been sending out Hindu missionaries to as many different cities as I can in hope of spreading it and gaining gold from my Hindu wonder.

Turn 99, 400BC:
I have come to a decision that Gandhi must die. If I eliminate him and his Buddhism, I will be the sole controller of religion on this island. I am now mass producing Gallic warriors and am now getting my elders to try figure out a way to break the defenses of the enemies. Apparently we wil first need something called mathematics, which I will research right after code of laws is done. In other news, We have founded our fourth city.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The previous spot I wanted to take was already taken over by the Malinese so instead I have to adjust for a position between Position 1 and position 2 from the previous map outlining the land. Anyways the city is currently nameless and needs a name. Any suggestions? Currently NewerMartianEmperor is the leader of Old Beard Halls, while MrPerson is the leader of Marblepigs. Anyone else care to take charge of a city?

Edit: On turn 100 I will do a big summary post showing the land, where we are and where other civs are.

Turn 100 375 BC:
And so, Confucianism is founded in the city of 'Nameless'...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Wow we are really owning these religions. I can now control labor with the caste system what ever that is. The elders tell me it does well when cities need lots of scientists, artists or merchants, but to me it seems useless. I would much rather have slaves and increase production that way. Research into mathematics has begun in order to see if we can get any of the fabled siege weapons I'm hearing about from other lands.

Hmm, maybe I would be better off moving the capital to BayTwelve seeing as it is more central and maintenance costs are directly related to the distance from capital.

Ninjad, Naming our city Pillagers, and you Archangel are it's leader. Lead them well! How do you wish to treat your servants? Do you want to be a slave driver? Religion encourager? Eco warrior?

Do you plan on building into the glaciers and snow later?

I have a feeling that there may be a barbarian encampment down there because there is a continous line of barbarian warriors streaming from that direction. They have started sending archers so I am not sure in my lone archer defending Old Beard Halls will be enough.

Prepare to push them back.  Do you think we could push for the iron?

He already has a source of iron. And spots are crappy in polar areas. Better to just get rid of the barbarian settlement, completely raze it, and move on.

Turn 101, 350 BC:
This Herodotus must know what he talks about. We are leading in technology.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Turn 103, 300BC:
I have sent a Gallic warrior to the south to see whether there is a barbarian city to destroy, there he meet some archers.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
But still no signs of city.

Turn 107, 200BC:
Our religious leaders have tasked us on a quest.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We must locate and then control the Holy Mountain. The location of said mountain can be sped up if we build temples and the like. Jewish Synagogues apparently provide much more of a boost to our locating efforts. So it is now a priority to build a Jewish Synagogue in ever city.

That's great and all, but what do you get when you complete the quest? Hopefully some divine favor or something.

Turn 112, 75BC:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nope our Gallic warrior has found no trace of civilization to the south. Only snow, seas and ice... And then we found the Malinese...
I feel the Malinese must be the ones sending there troops disguised as barbarians against us. That is the only obvious answer. Barbarians don't just appear out of no where. I will be investigating the Malinese and keeping a very close eye on them. Sending my scouts deep into their territory to see what they have and then when the moment is right I will attack them. I'll use the excuse of attacking the Indians if he ever wonders why there are hundreds and thousands of Gallic Warriors amassing in my cities. Also, our research into mathematics then construction paid off big time we can now produce catapults and are doing so at great speed.

Turn 114, 25BC:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Their defenses are thin, although these skirmisher warriors seem to do very well in defending cities. They will be an easy target.

Turn 121, 150AD:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
There civilization is spread out over 6 rather small cities. Though they have more cities than us, all are below size 7 so will not produce at the same rate we do. Hmmm, I think this may actually mean I should build more cities. I wouldn't want to fall behind.

The Mystics informed us that our civilization will be a happier place (I've received this quest before, you just get +1 happiness in all cities).
