Agreed on three. It will definitely help in speeding up some wonders.

I don't want to brag, but I could probably beat Warlord blindfolded. ;) Anyway, continuing with this stuff-eee!

Wonders are a blasphemy - you don't need most of them. *mauled*

Anyway, go with 3 then 2 to box in the respective opponents, although you could perhaps do more scouting in the region of 2, I'm sad seeing the corn going to waste.

Could you attach a save of your second game? I'd like to salvage one thing or two there.

Well i tried noble twice and well lost twice... Warlord is a bit easy you are right, but I am sort of stuck between the two levels. What would have you done differently in that last game? Is trying to get a monopoly on religions not usually a very good strategy? Also for now I figured Stonehenge was a good choice as I wanted to generate a great prophet for my holy cities and the free monuments in every city wasn't something to complain about either. Other wonders I might go for? Well if I get that marble I will definitely aim for oracle seeing as I get to buy a free technology, Also might go for that Spiral Minaret as it makes religious buildings much more profitable which is great as a spiritual leader as my religious buildings cost half as much.

I don't currently have a save of the other games, I only have one save game to prevent myself from save scumming. If I did save twice I wouldn't be able to hold back the urge to go back to the last save the moment something went wrong. And I don't want to go down that path like I did in wesnoth. The game just degrades into saving and loading then you are never having any fun.

You could also make me do my dance. I opened a thread. ;)

In early game, you usually churn out settlers like there's no tomorrow. You research the techs to improve your land and build a worker first. Then perhaps some warriors. Then, at city size three, a settler. In early game, you focus on growth and stuff... and if your opponent grabs all the religions and builds shrines, you should grind your axes. ;)

Depends. Do you run a cottage economy or a GP economy? Because the last one eats wonders like there's no tommorow...

Even when running a GP economy your main GP income comes from specialists (besides, I often run mixed). One should not think that wonders are generally good. Because some of them aren't worth the hammers you invested.

However, when running a One City Challenge, you should build as many wonders as possible. But that's a special case.

religion gives you muuuuuch gold too... in my last game, i had 4 holy cities, and spread my religions on all nearby civilizations... i earned a lot. also, when spreading my official religon, i got to see on all the cityes of my future enemyes.

unluckly, i noticed that i was left behind. in late game, i found that indians got a couple techs before me, and they started to build spaceship. if that wasn't the end of the game, i could have just rushed settlers, but there was no time.... so i just nuked him to stop his project, while i used my supercity and some lesser cities to build space elevator and all spaceship parts... and then won 17 turns from the end, while being invaded by enemyes with bigger army. it was a big rush for your victor end.

so, while religions are nice, if you focus too much on them you might fall behind a bit in growth and research.

anyway, i suggest settling in 3, then if you want faster research go for gold, or if you want faster growth go for pigs and corn near spot 2. as errol said, you need a lot of cities. you won't regret that when you get ONU either.
in my opinion, any military beyond basic defense can wait till you see a war coming, or are worried about other civilizations.

that is all i can say, which could be wrong and isn't worth much, since i started playing again only yesterday, and i nearly lost at warlord difficulty.

think also that i started the war when there was only 1 missing part in indians spaceship... and that the war was 3 vs 1. they destroyed one of my good cityes ( the same turn in which it managed to build a spaceshi part). and indians had SDI, i had to ram through it untill they were harmless.
quite a good end for an average game.

Some are utterly useless, but there are plenty of wonders that have only an average benefit but do come in handy for the gp points. After all, that's 2 or 3 more specialists that you normaly couldn't support and a bonus on top of it. Of course if it doesn't give you a benefit whatsoever and you don't have to deny your opponent the benefit then you'd better steer away from it. Especialy if it messes up your GP composition.

But that aside, I'd say that using a GP economy makes quite a few wonders viable that you wouldn't build with cottages alone

Well, I'll play the game this way and see where it takes me. I thought that most wonders were useless except a few like oracle, spiral minaret, pyramids and Stonehenge. Even those wonders are only useful in certain situations, like when you are building a religious empire. Don't worry about my strategy, I'll refine it on my own.

i usually i just build any wonder i see, no matter how unuseful it is. it is like collecting them, and i feel bad if someone else get it.

Turn 40, 2400BC:
The worker was finally produced in Old Beard Halls. I have started work on a quick warrior before I am to build a granary then following that with a settler.

Turn 42, 2320BC:
Pottery research was completed. Am getting my knewly created worker to build some cottages in hope they eventually reach town status and we can gain tax money off of them.

Turn 45, 2200BC:
Great news today, Our research of mining has finished and we move on to sailing. Along with the founding of Marblepigs,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We have also discovered where the Americans are hiding. It is not to the north as I first thought but to the west:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This will have to mean a readjustment of our plans, Maybe a bit more exploration to the west is needed. Also I will begin production of a missionary to send to their cites so I gain information on what they build as well as absorbing some gold from the religious payouts.

Turn 59, 1640BC:
I have researched priesthood in order to obtain access to the Oracle world wonder. Now I just have to get my workers working overtime to connect the marble to Old Beard Halls. Research is now going into bronze working so we can remove some of these forests.

Turn 63, 1480 BC: With the discovery of copper and it's uses, we have located that orange lump to the north of Marblepigs to be some of that amazing stuff:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
,
research is now going into Archery to help with city defense seeing as we currently only have these redundant club wielding warriors.

Turn 66, 1360 BC:
A peaceful one known as Gandhi has built an empire to the north:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Turn 71, 1160 BC:
Gandhi has offered open borders with us, I agreed knowing it will allow us to spread religion to him.

Turn 73, 1080 BC:
This offer has been also made by the Malinese. I agreed to his request as well trying to get in everybodies good books. Also our oracle has finished and provides us with one free Technology. Which one should i pick?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
My current ideas are Metal Casting, Theology or Code of Laws. Theology if I want to continue dominating the religions, metal casting if I want to get a head start on weapons for attacking cities or Code of laws for a balance of each. Code of laws may also provide a religion and is more essential to the game then theology as the elders inform me it will implement a new stage in history. Code of laws however is much cheaper to research than the other two, so may be best done without the oracles help.

I say choose metal casting since it will help you get better weapons then clubs and because I think its the most expensive.
