im trying to build the magma smelter but i cant find it on my build list. the wiki says to press b - e- l but i dont have the "l" option i only have wood furnace, smelter, glass funace, and kiln under my furnace options

Did you use reveal to find the magma pipe?

yea i did actually(its a magma pool though does that make a difference), is it unlocked when it is discovered?

The message you get when you discover it without using reveal triggers the ability to build magma buildings.

I have to ask - Where did you download Reveal from? Didn't it have a big WARNING on it about this, generally if not specifically?

The trick to fixing this is easy. Use reveal again to hide one of the edge tiles of the lava resivour and then designate it for channeling. Once the dwarf discovers that that one tile is magma, you'll get the message.

Don't you need a different utility for that?  I don't think reveal can hide things again...

Nope, reveal can hide tiles as well.

If you didn't download Reveal then the only other cause for this I know is that you found the magma pipe, then had to reclaim the fortress for whatever reason. This gives the annoying glitch that you can no longer build any magma buildings.

download tweak and use "enable magma buildings."

This has already been thought of and fixed.
