A Cracked.com forum thread. It made me laugh (as threads there are want to do), and it sounded so awesome I figured there was no way the game could live up to the hype. I was wrong.

It seems very dwarven to use the hell itself as a garbage disposal. I can just see this isolated pile of goblin clothing, rotten food, and chunks of animals sitting there in a featureless plain, slowly cooking in the heat as demons pick at it.

I had stumbled across Toady One's website somewhere around early 2006 or 2005, and I loved LCS and found Armok clunky and hilarious. Then he put up a notice about some Dwarves game around July 2006, and I figured I'd keep that in my mind. Mr. Adams had a lot more time back then, I think, replying to emails very thoroughly.

So naturally, when DF came out, I downloaded it and started playing.

I have a friend who likes to browse the Internet a lot. He points me to a lot of different stuff. Including shock websites on occasion-this is also the guy, I'm pretty sure, who introduced me to lemonparty and Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Anyway, he told me about DF and I've been playing ever since the 2D era.

It was a tiny little blurb in PC Gamer that led me to DF

Like many others, Boatmurdered, though I can't tell you when or why I came across it. Certainly within the last two years.

A /tg/ thread around the turn of last year. Some guy posted 'how I blocked magma creatures?' I then Googled it, read a shit-ton of the Wiki, began playing badly, and finally formatted my computer, losing all my drivers in the process and forcing myself to play without sound and at 5FPS until I discovered Init settings.

A few weeks later, I began making a mod. One enjoys being able to grasp concepts quickly.

From a forum of ADoM players. It was before the 3D version got introduced, and I didn't manage to get a grip on how to play, though reading about the game was fun in itself. Years later I was looking for some new complex game to play, and rediscovered it.

I saw some screenshots of it some guy kept posting on IRC.

At the time I didn't know how to interpret the screenshots; I thought I was looking sideways at some game world (as opposed to the top-down view that DF actually employs). I guess at first it takes seeing the game in motion to really know what you're looking at :)

Well, I play dwarf wherever it is possible :P

Some other 'dwarf' mentioned about DF, I checked, stumbled upon Boatmurdered, and started playing.

I must thank him personally some day xD

certain people *coughAsorandWerevolvovough* were discussing this game a lot on irc so I decided I'd give it a swing.

And what a swing did it give me. Feels good man.

My friend was playing it. I was over at his house using my laptop, playing Warcraft III or something like that, and he was playing DF. I took one look at the ASCII graphics and the tiny window size and I was like, "what the f is that??"

He showed me the game, but I was really confused. Once I got over the graphics, I was really impressed by the game's complexity, and I got sucked in.

Some "best 100 indie games" list I clicked on from reddit.com. There are a lot of redditors who love DF.
