Awesome and immobile immigrant??

Awesome and immobile immigrant??

I was very surprised to see the best immigrant I have ever seen. Most of them get military drafted anyhow, so immagine my surprize when I see one with all skills already.

She is a novice:

Axe dwarf, wrestler, shield user and armor user.

Even more astounding, she came with her own set of full steel armor with both chain and plate.

She will not move from the edge of the map.

What's wrong? weight?

I have screenshots, how do I post them?

Simple. That's her squad position, so unless you change the position through m-v-z-s or call her to stand down through m-v-t

You may have to wait a short while until that soldier loses their "newly arrived and not taking orders" mindset and adopts your fortress (similar to civilian migrants standing around your meeting zone for a while until they start working and filling job orders.)

And while one of the better migrants, certainly not all that unusual.

(Personally, I like the "Engineers" better (SgeEng 1, SgeOptr 1, PmpOptr 1), since Siege Engineer is harder to train, and the armor and weapons don't count towards any value for the fortress and are all no-quality.)

I may have forgotten that she has very nice stats for an immigrant too. Though she is not strong. at all. Tough but not strong. O well. More concerned with the non movement....

Anyhow it has been nearly a year game time and she still will not F***ing move. I have undrafted her, redrafted her, rinsed and repeatededededed. :P Attempted to reposition her squad via "x s." Nothing works.

I have even tried to get her to drop her axe via fighting preferences. Should've known she has a deathgrip on that thing....

She is thirsty and hungry. I can't believe I am saying this but I actaully DON'T want her to die.... Puzzling I know but that axe needs to be swung at things that aren't good generally piss me off.

I have to wonder what the crap is so fascinating that she's stuck there looking at it.

This is a bug that has been reported before - not sure if there was ever a work-around.  Do a search here and in bugs forum - I know I've read of this before (and seen it once w/ a soldier.)

From (no skill) to Novice (rank 1) in a skill requires 500 experience.  The 1st attribute comes at... 2000 experience.  So a migrant with 4 Novice skills (typically (exclusively?) military, like the one described here) will have just squeaked in with one attribute - other migrants will be anywhere from 2000 (peasants) to 500 (3 Novice skills) experience short.

1.use dwarf companion to teleport the migrant to a cage trap
2.wait till she falls asleep
3.catch and release
4.?????
5.PROFIT

or maybe migrants have a special mood you can switch off in the same way.

Taking her off duty doesn't work? I usually just have to do that. Then they'll head to the barracks and once there you can re-station them however you like.

On the bright side, even if she never moves her equipment is the really valuable stuff. ;)

I would never equip my military in no-quality armor unless I was very, very desperate.

However, steel plate has a fairly high value even at no quality, so you can get quite a bit for trading it. Or the full set can be melted down for a couple of steel bars.

There's a bug where soldiers will become stuck in place and won't move or respond to orders.  The way to fix it is to either knock them out, or forcibly move them.  Dig under and channel around her so she falls one Z-level, or engineer a nearby cave-in to knock her out with the dust.

I've reported this as a bug in the new 40d13 test version (Thus no utility program will work for it thus far, tweak, nothing...). I reloaded 7 times to my save, each time she eventually died. I even tried placing food and alcohol stockpiles right next to her. Nothing, she's not eating. Her husband is pissed. Whole thing kinda bummed me out too seeing as she would have been my first champion. Then there's the fact that she didn't even die in a cool way. How the hell do you engrave something for this?

"How'd your wife die again? "
"Um... she just sorta...stood there...."

Because that's a believable alibi....

Best cloud formation ever? Lethally distracting?

I'll try knocking her out but she just arrived so she's on the surface mapedge....

Build a single floor tile 1 z-level above and next to her -

X_
X   D

X = staircase
_ = floortile
D = Dwarf

Remove floor (<d, n>) , and let it fall - she should get knocked out in the dust cloud.
