Get back here you bastard.
« on: August 09, 2009, 01:22:15 am »

Ok so I have a legendary mechanic, who built dozens of cages traps around my base. Right now he's being chased by a skeletal mountain goat but refuses to return to the base, there by luring the beasts into the damn traps. Is there anyway to lure him back? He can easily outrun them, should I just wait for him to eventually wander back?

Also, I'm guessing I can't train a skeletal or zombified animal right?

Just draft him and station him in your fort. If the skeletal goat gets in the way, he'll kill it quite easily as goats(even if undead) shouldn't be a threat to even a untrained no-attribute dorf. That or you could dispatch your military, if you don't have one, I suggest getting at least a few trained crossbow dorfs just for these special cases. I suggest you don't leave him running for ever because you never know when those dorfs decide its a good time and place for a nap.

Undead critters are forever hostile. Can't be trained nor tamed, as long as they are undead, they'll try to kill every living thing they see. Which doesn't exactly make them useless, if you know what I mean. The french should have used skeletal tigers instead of guillotines.

Yeah, I was thinking about keeping them chained up somewhere, if only as a prize. He wandered back on his own, though the goats ate a horse. I never expected them to kill him, I just wanted to know if there was a way to lure them closer. I have yet to be attacked by goblins, despite having settled in a haunted/ terrifying area, so I was getting bored.

In my experience, xbow dwarfs are fairly ineffective vs undead creatures, as most of an xbows damage is piercing. And since undead don't have organs to pierce... IMHO your better off with hammerdwarfs.

As for luring the goats closer, try roping a bait animal outside your fortress, but behind your cage traps. If an undead gets close-ish it should move to attack your bait animal and get trapped.

Or, wiping out Orc forts. It's harder than it sounds. And it sounds pretty hard.
