Alright.. Once my food starts running low i suppose ill build a tunnel to my underground farm, remove the ramp to the surface and build a wall there. Hopefully i'll last.

EDIT/PS:I'm modding it so i can get free bars and charcoal and stuff at the smelter-so i get the stuff and need to make a chain, i add it to the forges task thing, no one comes. I go see my blacksmith/metalsmith, all his metal/weapon/armor/blacksmithing labors are on and he has those skills, he's not doing any other task so how do i get him to do it? Mainly it's for a chain for a well, but i do need it so i might be able to make some bolts and crossbows.

Try a different apporach. Hit them from a distance when they can't shoot you(hint hint)

build a massive tower, put fortifacations on the top, add crossbowdwarves, voila

Better yet, if you would like a 'better' (READ: More complicated) approach, make a large cube with walls made of fortifications.
Train a few crossbowdwarves with essential survival skills. (farming, etc.) Make sure you make a couple of workshops.
Put them inside this large fortification cube.
Viola! You have your own self-sustaining defense cube.
