Methinks weapon damage ought to be upped a bit. While armor now has value, having a battleaxe bounce off unprotected flesh is a bit silly.

It's hard to find a good balance.  I found the point that favored balanced fighters over totally naked and totally armored ones.  Also, Tacken had leggings covering his lower body, which is why it bounced off.

Round 2 of the Nerf Tournament

Cap'n Tastic, lightly armored and highly skilled terror of the seas:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

MJO625, the veteran competitor and 3rd worst poet in the world:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Who is deadliest?

On one side we have Cap'n Tastic,
Whose swordplay is highly gymnastic,
She'll throw back some rum
While kicking your bum,
And end you with something quite drastic.

On the other side is MJO,
Who is comparitively quite slow,
But her shield and spear
Should be quite highly feared,
She will leave you face down on the flo'.

Now, we let both fighters take aim
Even though they seem quite the same
But we'll see who flops
And who comes out on top
In our system made by Bay12Games.

it appears that spear dwarfs are dominating the tournament.

I DEMAND BALANCE

I'm not certain if you're serious, but I could make the argument that dwarves with shields and the shield-user skill are dominating the tournament.

after reading the wiki for a while, it looks like shields give a 20% blocking chance (and a possible counter)  while also giving the same protection as an unmodded chain mail.

what did you change the armour defense to? did you just lower the weapon attack?

I greatly increased the [BLOCK_PERC] tag and mildly decreased the [DAMAGE_PERC] tag of copper, iron, bronze, and steel in the matgloss_metal file.  Nothing else was changed.

Well in that case, I'm going to challenge MJO. The more speardwarves we get out of the competition, the happier fun time for everyone else.

Bronze cap exchanged for Bronze Shield, please.

I totally forgot to give myself a shield after becoming a speargodking again.

Hark! I shall celebrate my victory
By raising Shield User to level three.
But I find myself missing my wrestling fun
So I'll raise that skill to level one.

After my training, I've no time to rest
Since Tacken wishes to learn from the best.
Sadly for him, he'll leave in a cart
It'll be hard to walk with my spear through his heart.

Shields are probably going to dominate this tournament. If you're still tweaking things you may want to raise shield costs to their previous levels, leaving other armor where it is. Maybe put shield user up again as well, but to 150, 300.... instead of 200, 400....

It'll be a few days until I get to the next fight, anyway.  I forgot my external hard drive (which contains all information pertinent to this contest).

Sigh...

MJO, your cockiness seems quite rash
and it seems like bluster
For the scottish say - dinnae fash
for you can be blessed I'll ne'er cut ya.

No, stabbing is my game
for sure, it is yours too.
But you can be sure, i'm hard to tame
As you'll most likely find out soon.

A clash, a stab, a fight to the death
and only a single hand raised in victory
We'll battle it out, to procure the best.
And the loser, shadowed in mystery.
