1) Tarn knows
2) It doesn't infringe any copyright, so there's no case for suing
3) I own that damn shirt

Making money off of another person's IP certainly holds no moral ground..  even if it could be articulated legally. If Tarn pressed the issue, I don't see how they could continue selling shirts that have obvious ties to DF. (Of course, pressing the issue may cost more than it's worth unfortunately, which may be why it continues to exist)

IMHO, I think the least you can do is donate an equal portion of what you paid for that shirt to bay12games. Their hard work is why that shirt is even there..  and they deserve some profit for their effort. Something I doubt they are earning from the sale of these t-shirts (and I hope I'm wrong, actually).

Yeah, I mean its not exactly like a person is gonna come up to you while wearing that shirt and get interested in DF.  I mean:

Person: Hey, that shirt looks interesting, but I don't get it...

twenty minutes latter

Person: So, the c's are cats and because of the fact the game isn't done yet - oh fuck it, I'm going home.

is a scenario that comes to mind.  Though, on my campus that would actually mean they're going off to download the game.

HEY, you should try my Dwarfletter tileset...it's pretty.
I make games, too

This discussion has been had before. Multiple times. And as it turns out TPS is actually donating much of the profit directly to Tarn.

It seems more a reference to Yellow Submarine and The Beatles, but have a picture of a lever and some spikes shredding something.

Tagline: "I can't help it, I'm a born lever-puller".

Not the most clever one, but it's something else.

How about a "How to Speak Dwarven" series? Picture/Tagline (can be ASCII or detailed)

Few Examples:

%% (or a Screw Pump)
-Exercise Equipment

Drowning dwarves with carp around them
-Hors Dourves

Noble
-Test Dummy

Front:
Dwarves and Gobbos/etc. locked in mortal combat, blood and vomit and dismembered bodyparts everywhere, etc. ala ASCII graphics.

Back:
Combat Log of the above, with the URL above that

Sleeve:

Mature      17+
  M
 Content Rated By
      ESRB
---------------
Blood and Gore
Intense Violence
(etc.)

 ;D

Underwear idea:
Black briefs/boxers, with "Pull Lever A" on them.

Correction:

(P)ull My Lever

Good to hear. Thanks for the candor.

Brilliant Douglas Adams (HHGttG) reference, along with DF.

YOU HAVE STRUCK ORTHOCLASE

THIS, this a thousand times.

Not literally of course. This thread is full of great Ideas and I may actually have the local T-shirt shop make me one of these.

edit: Although the "Strike the earth T-shirt" is also awesome.

I hate the idea of buying a t-shirt I have to explain.

"Naw, baby, it's a reference to this semi-popular game on the internet that... Oh, I see you've decided to move to the other end of the bar. And you're calling me weird. No, that's cool."

Come up with a t-shirt that won't cause that problem, and I'm on your side.

How about "I like cats." on the front and "Especially +cat tallow biscuits+" on the back.
People will only stare at you funny if they can see the back.

Hm... Not bad, not bad.

My problem is that I live in Rural Bumfucksville, USA. If I said that I liked cats, I'd probably be beat up for gay-ness.

Try harder.

Hard Rock.
It's like the Heavy Metal shirt you can get from ThinkGeek, but has hard rocks instead of heavy metals.

Better!

There's a Tech College here, so geological references might be just about enough to get me laid.

"Baby, you've got cleavage like granite. No, no, that was compliment! Where are you going?"
