Key error? [SOLVED]
« on: August 06, 2009, 12:02:32 pm »

Just for the record this is the first time i have ever played DF before.

However I'm having a problem because from time to time it tells me to cycle through options or increase/decrease values with what looks like a plus in a circle and a subtraction sign. However, I don't know whether it's because i'm on a laptop or because I'm using a game mod that makes all the symbols more recognizable (Better graphics is suppose), but I havent a clue what these keys are. I beleive they are very important because I cannot set my adventurer skills or read the help menu without them....

Or you can just rebind your keys to something more... useful. Hit escape and you should see the option, the +/- keys I think are "Secondary selection up/down"
In any case, hitting the + key didn't work?

Most (if not ALL) laptops have some sort of 'F' key, usually down somewhere near the windows key.  Pressing this key allows a set of keys on the keyboard to function as the numpad.  The default keys that you are having trouble with would equate to the \ and * on your numpad.  To access these on my laptop I use the Fn key and 0 and P respectively.  Examine your laptop keyboard closely and you should see smaller numbers beside the letter in the same color as the F keys lettering.   Hope this makes sense.

Alright, I see the [Fn] key and some smaller numbers and symbols next to already existing keys, i'll give this a try

I remap those keys (secondary selector in keybindings list) to Alt-Up and Alt-Down (it'll show as alt-8 and alt-2).

It's easier for me than using the Fn key.
