Uh, no.

Just stab the mofo. Attacking from stealth doesn't cause a bounty (at least it doesn't when I do it, could be my mods but I aren't sure). Even if it does just show the guards your writ and they let you walk.

Also, taunt works fine if you have a decent speechcraft. I recommend joining the thieves guild first, for a while at least.

EDIT:
Also, you need decent security to join. There's a 50 lock along the way that needs bypassing.

I guess I was just too afraid of the being arrested, and I figured attacking from Stealth didn't work if your Stealth wasn't good enough to actually register.  I already knew about Speechcraft though - what I saying is, even when Taunt succeeds, the target still doesn't turn hostile.  Also, success is affected by how much the person likes you, so you succeed at taunting your friends and are likely to fail at taunting people who already hate you.  Bullcrap.

Sounds like you were bugged.
But yeah, you can just bash their heads in and present your writs afterwards. But let's stop this spoilery spoiler spoiler before Amp gets sick of us :D

Also, Taunting has to be successful about 3-4 times before they go hostile.
When they do, they immediately end conversation with the standard "No response allowed" text, and then start to fight.

A fresh new day. Thanks for the not so subtle hints, by the way. I didn't know about the taunt thing, but that isn't very spoilerish; it's a game mechanic after all, if a rather clumsily implemented one.

I'll have the next post up soon.

Yeah I was talking about Morag Tong. You did know about them?
Seems like you might have missed them if you only rushed through the game.

I'd say wait till you get to know the world a bit more, the other houses are pretty cool as well.

Edit: Taunting is hard for characters that really love you as well. It works best in the middle disposition range, although failed taunt brings it down so it's not so noticable.

But none of them quite defy the human tongue with names as awesome as Hlaalu.

Redoran is crap and Telvanni requires levitation extensively. Telvanni has the best gifts, but Hlallu has easy, well-paying quests. Not going to give them away, so find it out on your own. Just know that Redoran quests are not worth the effort. In any case, I would train so you can pick a 50 point lock. There's a lot of <50 point locks in the game, but not so many that are over 50.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I went with Redoran myself, and never had problems... well, except for broken quests that prevented me from quite beating it. If you don't have the 1.6.4 Community patch, GET IT NOW.

I'd like to throw in a vote for the Telvanni. A lot of cross-class training might be needed, but they have some really nice stuff.

I think before I take my pick of houses, I should stick to getting my first few levels up via the Fighters Guild and the Thieves Guild.

Then join the very honorabre Morag Tong! For great justice!
