They're updating reality?  I have enough trouble keeping up with the updates in Dwarf Fortress!

Does this mean I'll have to download a new universe?

You'll have to download and regen the universe. Meaning you have to wait a little while while history replays itself with the different changes and then you have to start your life over. Or you could just stay with the old version.
