Dawntide, an MMO in development
« on: August 05, 2009, 12:27:48 pm »

An MMO in development, I thought Bay12 members would be interested. It's focuses:

Player Cities with shops, crafting, military and many more buildings - plus upgrades!
Handcrafted island world with many exciting places to Explore and Conquer.
Fully Conquerable world with safe areas for new players!
Skill based progression. No more levels or classes!
Complex and fun Crafting allows players to create unique items with a wide range of materials.
Laws and guards allow players to truly rule the territory they conquer.
Deep and exciting background Lore to be discovered.
Single, uninstanced world makes your impact on the game meaningful.

And the game looks like this:

Promising words from the devs on the forums: "I did draw some inspiration from Wurm (a friend of mine got me playing it), particularily in wanting to make the environment as interactive as possible, but the reason I stopped playing it myself was the horrible interface and extreme time sinks on the simplest of things - so don't worry, I don't plan to follow that particular example"

Okay, so update: My account is active now and I'm in the starter town. It is as pretty as the screens look which is good, but at current state many things aren't functioning quite right - character customization besides race and gender are not in yet, and there are many little things all over that need fixing.

Well... its a beta. I'm curious about this game but hellmoo has drawn me into its web so I look forward to info about the game when its a bit more polished.

After reading the forums, I've discovered that the devs are in fact the makers of EQEmu server 'Shards of Dalaya' http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/

Sounds interesting. However since you have posted this on the Dwarf Fortress forums, I only have one question to ask.

Can you mine out a mountain?

In the current build mining is just the typical find-rocks-with-ore-and-click-on-them. Not sure if they have plans to change that later.

Are the makers avid fans of dwarf fortress or something? They implemented carpentry and brewing first, in other words barrels for storing booze.

sounds like they're planning p2p at a reasonable rate (no charge for client, of course)
