Prevent Eating Particular Food
« on: August 22, 2006, 08:38:00 pm »

It would be nice if the kitchen screen had options to prevent dwarves from eating particular foods.  In particular I'd like to prevent them from eating raw food.  Spoilage is rarely an issue for me, and dwarves eating the raw food prevents it from being cooked up with some tasty tallow or plump helmet spawn.

... you're cooking your plump helmets? More so, you're cooking your plump helmet SPAWN?

I would ask why, but I don't think I want to know.

No, I don't cook my plump helmets, because then they don't produce spawn.  If I have a lot of excess spawn (or I really need the food), I'll cook them for biscuits.

Sometimes there are just too many of these damn plump helmets and their spawn. They fill all your barrels, and the best course of action is to make a fine Plump Helmet Roast.

I can second this.  I've never cooked them myself, but if you're fertilizing your fields, replanting them at a high rate, and so on, you'll be getting several times the plump helmet seeds you planted each year.  Since your population doesn't multiply by that high of a number each year (particularly not later on), you eventually have quite a surplus of seeds.

I wouldn't generally cook them, though.  It's not like storing them is so burdensome...

there seems to be a hard-cap of 200 helmet spawns in storage, so if you've got 200 of them and a couple hundred helmets waiting to be eaten, you might as well cook some up.
