*sighs*

I managed to save the epic post by Viaolis.
Yes. The Charter. Its a great piece of history. The declaration of independence started the end of VN
Then as a finisher we have yuri, anti-yuri, the war between the holy chin and ministry. I might print it and tape it to a wall or something. That post was pure epicness.

The rest is pure trash

Rooster? YOU STILL LIVE?
REALLY?

Okay, I'm relenting.  I was searching for something completely unrelated, and stumbled across some old VN threads someone might have an interest in.  I really don't have time for archives, but these might be worth the effort.

Moar Muslim - What started as a surprisingly coherent conversation from IWM turned into an all comers flamefest about religion and whatever the hell Nonanonymous was talking about.  Cogent stuff all around.

What level am I on? - 174 raeg posts comparing life to an MMO.  Comedy!

What are the reasons for deleting VN?

If it is anything but server space/processing, it can be solved by restricting viewing of it to a limited usergroup.

As far as everyone else would see, it would be deleted.

This way, it's total deletion could be delayed, giving anyone authorized more time to preserve the good stuff.

I fear I may sound slightly like Armok here, but I would not mind seeing the thread where some of us started acting like hardboiled 1930's detectives and mobsters.

It's possibly to hide the board, but I'm not sure I want to be in charge of cess pool access forever, and a subsection of the people that would want to view it are the ones that would cause trouble with it (moving topics over there, etc.).

Anyway, I guess only the people that are serious about archiving should be over there.  VN is now hidden, and the people who posted in this thread are in the VN archivist group.  If you aren't in the VN archivist group and are serious about archiving it, then you can ask to join up.  VN will still be deleted, since this isn't something I want to perpetually manage, but I can do it later.  You guys had a month, and some of you are just starting to panic now, which doesn't get any sympathy from me, but you can have one extension.

Please don't link to VN topics on the other boards, as those links will not work outside the VN archivist group.  Do not under any circumstances move a topic to VN.  Consequences for that breach of trust will be severe.  If you don't want to be in the archivist group, just let me know and I'll remove you from it.

I will still take requests for moving threads over, but they need to fit well in their new homes.

Thanks, this relived some anexity.

I'm not sure what a month can acomplish in the long term thou, considering how the issue has been known for many moths and little has been done abaut it, it will help some more random threads geting archived but as I am unlikely to know very much more scripting in a month than I do now I'm a bit wories all this does is stave of the inevitable a bit. But atleast it does that.
never mind that paragrap, what is it you say abaut given horses and mouths now again?

Does that mean I've been roped into this effort?  What did I say about not tape-recording parties?

Ah Hell, I'll try to do something about something or something.  Just gimme a few days.

The way I see it, there are three types of topic:

1. Utter waste.

2. Average

3. Needs to be kept

The waste needs to be eliminated, what needs to be kept, needs to be kept, but the rest is questionable, though not very valuable.

If there are topics that can be skipped is not really the issue, because the forum is really far to large for anyone to realistically read through everything and sort it in less than a few years. The realistic use for the forums is remembering a specific topic at a later date and searching for it, or opening a topic at random and reading, or doing something to the data with software of types not yet invented. Also, people disagree on what is worth keeping or not.

Aqizzar: Does that mean you'll try to find spesific topics worth keeping, or that you will try to make some kind of script?

That means I might try to find topics.  I don't know anything about scripts.  What I suggest is that you set your preferences to show the maximum number of posts per page, then either save the page as a stand-alone document, or select everything in the page, paste it to a text file, and cut out all the irrelevant stuff.

Remember, the images don't carry over, and most of them are gone.
