Strip Sparring
« on: August 03, 2009, 04:27:39 pm »

I have two wrestlers training right now (my first two champions, yay) and one of them just ripped the others chestplate off and is carrying it around. Thought it was odd that he didnt drop it because the barracks it littered with civilian clothes that they pulled off each other.

Does anyone know how I can get my dwarf to drop the armor? I have tried forbidding it and marking for dump but he is still carrying it around.

From what I've read elsewhere in this forum, it's a bug, and they won't drop it. I imagine if you were to remove the [THOUGHT] tag from their little dwarven brains, they'd drop it (along with anything else any other dwarves are carrying).

I'm not responsible for any massive unconsciouness plague you might cause by following my advice (just make sure you put the tag back :P)

*sigh*  Okay now there are 15 something pieces of civilian clothing in the barracks and 'dump' isnt moving them. Wrestlers keep canceling spar session due to "no floor space".

Set his armor preferences to clothes. He'll drop the chestplate in his hand.

Those are clothes owned by the wrestlers. Since they are owned, only the owner can move them, and since they're military dwarves, they don't do any hauling. You can hide them if it bugs you.

If you're getting floor space cancellations, you need to expand the size of your barracks. I think this typically occurs when you disable the main barracks but have several auxiliary one tile barracks from beds. In any case, you need at least two tiles of barracks to happen, so something funny is going on.

Thank you.

Well my barracks is made from a weapon rack set against the wall (heard rumors that beds in a barracks could cause more injuries) and it is 8tall/11wide with nothing in it besides the one weapon rack.

Could I set my guys back to civilian status and have them move them without losing my combat exp?

Yes, assuming they are not Elite/Lords, because those cannot return to civilian status. I really hope this gets fixed in the next version, it annoys me as well. It seems... odd that the clothes of champions will lie there forever, because the champoins won't move them and other dwarfs can't.

Magma fixes everything. Deconstruct the weapon rack, move it to some stockpile, seal off the barracks, fill with magma, drain/pump out magma. Problem solved!

Well thats annoying, both of them are champions already.

The way military dwarves are told and then decide what to wear is significantly different in the next version. I believe one of the side-effects of this is that they'll store their spare clothes in containers if they're available, which negates this problem.

I think it stems from the fact magma allows much faster, easier and cheaper production of both metal and glass. Many players don't bother with metalsmithing or glassmaking at all if magma is not available, myself included. Too much micromanagement. Soon players started using it offensively as a weapon, and eventually players figured out they could solve virtually any problem with magma, though I'm one of the few who limits it to economical uses

A current will push it, if you have a water source you could push them all to somewhere out of the
way. Ideally a chasm/pit.

Failing that, if you have periodic rhesus macaque raids, you could try trapping some of them, releasing them in your barracks and hoping they grab some of the stuff letting them escape with it.

Magma causes fire. Fire is a pretty fun thing.

The dwarves seem to think so too. When they catch on fire they get so overjoyed that they run around the fort sharing it with everyone.

Try giving your wrestlers shields. That seems to keep them from throwing eachothers clothes all over the barracks.  ;)
