Rangers don't have to be animal friendly! I'm sure Rambo had a level or two in it at least.

Anyway, Gandalf is (was) human. I think he might be some kind of warped Celestial thing after the Baalrag thing though. And he probably took a prestige class in something religious also.

He already was a warped Celestial thing before the Balrog. All five Wizards were Maiar, just like Sauron, only less willing to use their power overtly so they wouldn't become like him, until Saruman screwed that up. After the Balrog he was an even more powerful warped Celestial thing.

That would make them at the very least Solars in terms of ECL.
