Solo Dwarf Challenge
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:05:23 pm »

Well, after reading One Dwarf Against the World for my first time(well, that and being plagued by 30-40 FPS in my otherwise perfect fortress), I've decided to attempt a single dwarf embark... though possibly less murderous then Urist's adventure. I'm thinking I will just turn immigration off(is there a way to turn caravans off as well?) though I still need a way to get rid of the other 6... Preferably in an 'accident' than a trap. Any ideas? Also, ideas for the fortress in general?

Don't turn off imigration or caravans. Turn all immigrants into wrestlers and set them to attack animals. That way you'll have a feral band of dwarves that will attack anything and everything on site, including enemy sieges and caravans. Much more Funtm

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

well, when i got inspired by urist to make a 1 man fort, i tried to keel my dwarves by building a extension on a bridge and dropping them all into the carp infested river. I had started writing a story... and then my comp crashed and I lost everything... twice, and i didnt bother to try again.

I think having the other six die in a mining accident is the way to go. If you embark near a chasm you can have the surviving dwarf cause the mining accident and have the other six blown into the chasm. Brilliant!

And I can attest to the fact that having a feral band of dwarves outside your gates is kinda cool. If you ever open the gates up, though, it's game over. Just seal the dwarf in but leave immigration on.

Thanks for that...  now I have the image of Urist McBooger walking up to me with a creepy smile and asking me if I want a "dwarven shower".

How do you make them go feral? Sounds interesting... even still, I doubt I'd do it. I like going outside. Any ideas to stop the caravans?

How do you make them go feral? Sounds interesting...

Just draft all the migrants to wrestlers and station them someplace outside. Put them all into one big squad. Keep them on duty at all times and have them harass wild animals and chase opponents. They will catch vermin to eat and drink from a brook. They will also be completely miserable because of all this and so they will tantrum constantly. So they will be fighting (and therefore training) all the time. Occasionally someone will break an arm or something and then they'll die. Feral dwarves don't help each other: It's survival of the fittest.

The dwarves will also, when their leader roams the land hunting vermin, kill everything else on surface of the map.

Also, here's a caveat as to why you never let feral dwarves back into your fort.
