I can't bring myself to hate the elves too much. They brought my current fortress the three black bears needed to start a breeding population (which is now very large). This year they brought a freaking alligator. How can I stay mad at them?

Although they do bring logs, which I need..

In my games, humans and dwarves have brought me wood with or without me requesting it. They sell you it for 3 dwarf bucks a pop as apposed to the expensive elf wood shit they try to sell me.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

You can think of elves as bringing stuff that's either awesome or impractical.

However +elf bone bolts+ are pretty practical.

And at size 7, they give you 35 bolts instead of the standard 30 you get out of a goblin.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

ah, you have fallen into a logical fallacy.

All that is impractical is awesome, but not all that is awesome is impractical.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.

Persoannly I completly ignore the elves exept of checking their caravans for cool stuff. Even when they demand I cut down less trees I ignore them. They are objects of lesser existance.

Existence. Vermin are creatures of lesser existence, yet we still keep cats around to kill them (STOP KILLING MY PRECIOUS TURTLES, THEY ARE ONLY A VERMIN ON TECHNICALITY). You should keep a cat-analogue for ridding yourself of elves, but not precious turtle elves. If they existed.

Grr.. What i hate about Elves is that they all smell of Holy Water, Satyrs, Unicorns, Forest Spirits, River Spirits, River Spirits, And Many Vegetables of which i am quite unfond of...

Oh yeah, and they're Anti-Demonists.

Speaking of which, why do elves sell you animals?

What, are they too dumb to notice all the -Grizzly Bear Leather Tunic- lying around the fort?
