How do I mod in rabbits?
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:18:18 am »

Frankly I'm sick of Mules and would like to replace them with rabbits for all the following reasons:

a.) Mules can't breed, Rabbits breed like well.... rabbits.
b.) Rabbits are an underground animal; they seem more Dwarven.
c.) You would think Rabbits would be a space efficient meat source
(though I understand that's not possible in game).

How do I edit the Raws to create/replace this animal?

There is also a meat production problem. You get a lot of meat from rabbits. Individual rabbits aren't big but you get a LOT of them. I imagine breeding rates are hard coded? Therefore, I'd make due with getting a lot of meat from one Rabbit to simulate the huge reproduction cycles that would flood rabbits and thus rabbit meat.

Questions? Comments? Ideas?

Bada bing.

Code: [Select]
        [CREATURE:RABBIT]
[NAME:rabbit:rabbits:rabbit]
[TILE:'r'][COLOR:6:0:0]
[LARGE_ROAMING]
[MODVALUE:1]
[FREQUENCY:100]
[PREFSTRING:lucky feet]
[DIURNAL]
[POPULATION_NUMBER:15:30]
[CLUSTER_NUMBER:3:7]
[BENIGN][MEANDERER][NATURAL][PET]
[PETVALUE:75]                               [BODY:QUADRUPED:TAIL:2EYES:2EARS:NOSE:2LUNGS:HEART:GUTS:ORGANS:THROAT:NECK:SPINE:BRAIN:MOUTH]
[BODYGLOSS:PAW]
[SIZE:3]
[MAXAGE:5:10]
[ATTACK:MAIN:BYTYPE:STANCE:kick:kicks:1:2:BLUDGEON][ATTACKFLAG_WITH]
[LITTERSIZE:3:5][CHILD:1][CHILDNAME:bunny:bunnies]
[FAT:3]
[COMMON_DOMESTIC]
[STANDARD_FLESH]
[HOMEOTHERM:10068]
[LAYERING:100]
[SWIMS_INNATE][SWIM_SPEED:2500]
[MUNDANE]

That should do it. A quick 3 minute mod of cows.

To answer your post, reproduction rates are somewhat fixed, but you can have a workaround by having large litters (I made them very large in this case). Also, if you wanted really fast reproduction rates, remove [CHILD:1]. That would cause rabbits to be born fully ready to breed.

Awesome, thank you.

Will they be standard animal livestock I can buy from the caravans/at embark?

[COMMON_DOMESTIC] allows them to be bought during embark.

They're quite cheap too.

petvalue 75! I think that's a bit high...

EDIT: Rabbisplosion? sounds like something a dirty old Jew would do though...

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Hey, 75 is pretty high.

Cows had something like 300 or 500. I assumed that was already pretty low and just made it a fraction of that for rabbits.

Didn't notice dogs having a petvalue of 30 :S
