How do I restore elephants to their throne?
« on: August 01, 2009, 05:48:26 am »

I'd like to reinstate the elephants as king of beasts. How may I achieve this, other than removing the benign tag? Anything that actually makes them hostile to dwarfs?

And another thing, once I do that, how do I make them appear everywhere? I mean, in every biome, such that every map I embark on will have an elephant herd or two wandering in? (Don't ask. I have a very specific idea in mind. Cookie for anyone who figures it out. [Hint: Look at my other topics])

I think that removing the benign tag is all you can do to make the elephants hostile, and change the biome from any_tropic jungle (think that's what it is....) to any_land

also I'm pretty sure that you are trying to recreate Boatmurdered :P

Set biome to NOT_FREEZING so they live everywhere, add [LARGE_PREDATOR] (and for the ultimate killer elephants add [AMBUSHPREDATOR] so they sneak and hide), and set their attacks with tusks from SECOND to MAIN too so they gore your dwarves.

Remove MEANDERER so they don't move randomly, but target your dwarves. Add BUILDINGDESTROYER:2.

Ambushpredator joke aside, this should be enough.

P.S> Remove the TRUNK bodypart. True elephants had no trunks.

... Maybe not building destroyer or ambush. That'd be just scary.

Ambushpredator was a joke, however building destroyer seems to be appropriate. They are big and all.

Blast, didn't notice this the first time round. Oh well, have a virtual cookie. Yep, trying to see if I can have flooding rivers in 3d, too.

Hrm.

Only way I can think of would be via flood-gates blocking the exit tiles of the river.  For bonus points, build some kind of mechanical clock to trigger them seasonally, but semi-randomly.

You would have to build a reservoir to build up extra water as the river's won't jump their banks. If you did that, then it would be easier to have them trigger semi-annually by just placing a trigger high up in the reservoir that would trigger it.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

increase cluster size (more in a group), remove frequency (makes them a constantly present), remove meandering, more damblock, bigger size, better attack, trapavoid, building destroyers, and predators.

That should make them plenty devastating without doing stupid things like 25000 fixed temp or 1000 damblock.

Ehehehehe. My dwarfs are in for a horrible time.

EDIT: Just genned. There's none on the map! Nuuuuu! :'( How do I get some to arrive? Or otherwise tweak 'em to show up? I've changed their biome to NOT_FREEZING.

Did you remove the FREQUENCY value?

If yes, start killing the native wildlife; Elephants should show up soon. If no, then go remove it and re-gen.

They don't actually have the value by default. Or if they ever did, I sleepmod.

In which case start killing off wildlife or just hang around for a season or two, they should turn up.
