So...  Anyone speak enough bureaucratese to read these documents?  I'm trying, but it'll take awhile.

For now, I can only say that I'm quite surprised to see something like this coming from Switzerland of all places.

Oh, shit. I live in Switzerland.

And I honestly can't say I'm not surprised. Well, all governements suck, plus there was this secret "army" that was financed by the taxes without anybody knowing anything about it some time ago, but still, I didn't think I'd see something like this in my country anytime soon.

I'm not sure about the actual consequences though, would be too long to read the whole file, then read about what it means technically, then read about what it actually means. Will they censor illegal websites ? Censor inconvenient websites ? Use it to catch hackers ? Use it to catch pirates ? Use it to catch any criminal ? I'm not even sure they could use it to do any of that, I sure hope they won't.

I just glanced over the technical part of it.. it looks like it's just going to read your email and stuff. Looks like every packet going into the country is going to have a copy somewhere. I'm not too worried about it, unless you don't want them reading your email. Email tends to be highly encrypted anyway. But they'll probably know what porn your looking at, and have a copy of it somewhere :P

Wouldnt that be illegal, since they could get their hands on child porn?

Not really.  I imagine would be like a police evidence vault, where they have to hold everything for legal use.

Policing the internet is like throwing elves into magma in an effort to make obsidian, sure eventually you might do it, but you'll probably run out of elves.

Yeah, they can't completely control the internet, but still, it's a step towards something. It was made public like half a month ago, I'd think it would have created a shitstorm, but apparently nobody cares.
I'm thinking; they make it public, saying it's an effort to fight child pornography. Some people are unhappy to have everything they do on the internet recorded, but nothing is done. Then some criminals are caught thanks to this system, the story runs on the news to make the conservatives happy. Then a law permitting further use of the data is voted, etc. And before you know it, there are big lists of people watching porn, visiting "potentially doubtful" websites, writing doubtful posts on blogs or forums, you can't use p2p, you can't visit interesting websites, and everything you do on the internet can be used against you in a court of law.
Of course, maybe not. I have no idea what the intents of those who ordered this done are.

Actually, I just read an automatic translation of the mail in german and they want to watch "suspected persons" and catch criminals. It could be worse.

I say you and your friends should sends thousands of huge emails of gibberish to each other, to waste government space until their records are useless.  Bonus points for using a macro.

I suspect they'll have really big drives.

I also suspect that instead of recording everything they use some device that browses through everything looking for keywords.

Ok, you can just send them a random selection of words.  And while their drives may be huge, there's a limit to the number of emails they can search through.

Or, get 6 of your friends together, get some tools and food, and migrate, to build a new fortress country away from the oppression of the nobles Swedish government.
