may i suggest instead of just being one object the gelatinous cube be made of about a million cube chunks surrounding a cube core? that way we would have to slice off a ton of cube chunks before we can actually do any damage.

A creature the size of europe can occupy only one tile.

And now we need a Gelatinous Hypercube.

It kills you before you even start the fortress!

You can't see the gelatinous hypercube because it's not here yet. Try looking 3 minutes from now. Oh there it is, 7 minutes ago where you decided to stand then. You die.

So if a creature has more than one instance of [LOWERBODY] or [UPPERBODY], would they all have to be destroyed before the creature is? And it wouldn't help much if you had 30 million body segments connected to one, since if you lose that one, you lose them all. Let's see what happens though.

This is why I didn't take up physics. Bloody Physicists creating things that they cannot possibly know whether it does or does not exist...

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Man, don't confuse real physicists with bloody idiots who pretend to be clever and spam nonsense. You've read too much internetz.

Also you can't create thing and don't know whether it does or does not exist. If you've managed to create it, it exists per se. I've made a cardio sensor from mp3-player and a pair of headphones, and I pretty much know that it exists and how it works.

Unless it's a cat. In a box.

What's wrong with a cat in a box? If you put a cat in a box there's a thousand of ways to detect is it alive or not in real world.

I asked not to post nonsense :D.
"Thought experiments" are just mind exercises, and they cannot be accepted literally and definitely cannot be used as a fact in a single sentence as you did :).

The loss of a single upper body, lower body, or head is instantly fatal until the next version. I guess that you could remove [UPPERBODY] and [LOWERBODY]. A creature doesn't need those parts unless they already have them, but you would need to give the player an alternate means to kill it.

Also, having many body parts means that attacks are less likely to hit a vital target. As it stands, your gelatinous cube is a sliding target.

Losing any of the vital body parts, regardless of how many you have, is fatal.

Vital body parts are [HEAD], and upper and lower body.

So I think you could just make it nothought with extravision, give it a few cosmetic body parts, and it'd be practically invincible.

By the Dark Gods! After making many many modifications, I finally generated a world that had the cubes. I finally found a gelationous cube in adventure mode when it was assigned to me as the creature to be killed. I was a Frost Giant axeman, and the thing just ate me, really, really quickly. It is no way a sliding target now.

The body:
Code: [Select]
[BODY:CUBE]
[BP:MB:body][STANCE][SIGHT][MOUTH]
[BP:FUL:body][STANCE][SIGHT][CON:MB][LEFT]
[BP:FUM:body][STANCE][SIGHT][CON:MB]

It rapes hard. I guess now the next step is to make a megabeast version :3

Putting a cat in a box is tantamount to suicide, a Catsplosion is bad enough, a Quantum Catsplosion is just asking for it.

Also, Gaz-1, do you ever check your errorlog? NOT_BUTCHERABLE is obsolete in the last version.

I checked my errorlog.txt, and the only errors were TOWN isn't a valid site token, NIGHTMARE isn't a valid sphere token and RECKLESS isn't a valid creature token.

NOT_BUTCHERABLE is obsolete, but it doesn't throw any errors; it just doesn't do anything.
