This might be a part of the army arc, but I think I should bring it up anyway.

In the legend screen, (and perhaps when asking about family, engravings), I think it would add a bit more color and more clarity, that if greater then a certain amount of creatures die in a short time frame, it should be considered a battle.  Something like:

In the midspring of 1051 Alu mortally wounded Udon Youngpower, who bled to death in the battle of Dancejoined/Blood Rain/etc

Also in the battle legend screen, there should be a list of all the battles that have taken place obviously, but also the info included in the battle should be who died, but who part as well.

Battles are really part of the army arc. As of now, there's no battles to put in the legends.
