Did this with one of mine. Found what seemed to be a small cave... 65+ Kobold corpses, dead companions, and a bruised lower spine later, and I still hadn't seen the bottom. And there was usually 1-3 kobolds a level. sometimes more, sometimes less.

Oh yes. i easily killed a monster in 2 turns that has picked up 2 of my other guys and ripped there heads of by swinging them around.

no, actually bolts are great. when thrown from a really strong guy especially.
plus axes are also nice for throwing if they get too close.
