I do not know if some one said this already but the ability to build submersive vehicles would be cool you could use them to carry stones and wood underwater to build underwater cities and to transport kelp and other items from the sea floor.

The idea has been tossed about a bit on the forums. My understanding it isn't added to the discussed topics on the first post because Toady has thrown a tech cap at roughly the year 1400 in real life. Meaning anything that wasn't commonly manufactured in the year 1400 won't have a shop or system specifically associated with it. This means we probably won't see a shop for building bathysphere parts. I could be wrong though.

Diving bells would be fine, though.

Check out my post here.  You might be pleasantly surprised!

:3  Hee hee...  I mean, it isn't a bathysphere and it wasn't common (if it indeed existed), buuuut...

I've had dead whales wash up on my beaches before, which apart from being a nice touch aesthetically, got me thinking that it would be great if we could properly utilize net fishing in DF. If you could use nets to fish the deeper areas of the sea from Land, thus greatly increasing your bounty o' fish (perhaps at a lower rate of acquisition), but also giving you the chance to dredge up more exciting things from the depths i.e. merpeople, angry seabeasties and other exquisite goodies.

As a second part to this, perhaps a 'Pier' option, if this boat related idea is going forward, as this would serve as a platform for both that and fishing, and would allow for FUN when Dwarves who 'like the sea for it's crashing waves' wander out during a storm and are swept to the depths.

Oh, and also megabeasts, give H.P. Lovecraft some love and name one of the seabeasts Cthulhu.

Thanks for clearing that up and i say the diving bell or diving apparatus would help a little in game to add that extra element of fun.

I've been keeping track of the info in that thread and its certainly really cool and leaves some great possibilities open. I'm hoping that any mechanics that might be implemented for buoyancy or density will allow for similar devices to be built, at least as undersea vessels if we don't get diving helmets.

In other news, since Barbarossa has said that he doesn't have the time to maintain the thread anymore, he's given me permission to continue in a new thread here.

Dwarven Divers will be the first item I add to the list =).
