Hermit Challenge Help.
« on: July 31, 2009, 01:42:54 am »

How might i go about killing my starting dwarves and immigrants so i can have a hermit fortress? I have some problems running a huge fortress so making a small little fortress would be prime for me, as well i would like to know how to stop my dwarves from taking breaks, er, where in the raw files? And i feel like everyone on this forum hates me for some reason  :'(

Be creative.

You can starve your dwarves by walling them in somewhere with no access to food.
You can collapse a roof on them.
You can station them on a bridge over a magma pipe and pull a lever.

And no doubt many other ways. The limit is your imagination.

You can't prevent dwarves from taking breaks. You can cut them short by activating and deactivating them.

All my forts have a starving chamber.A huge room with nothing but a door linked up to a lever.Quite effective.Youd want more than one tho.

Lol, the savage treaties[maybe the dwarf that will be the hermit made it cause he knows hes gonna kill off the other dorfs.] and it said "  'ere the giant eagles get hungry'  " so i was like oh noes! Plus theres is EXPOSED hematite veins DIRECTLY next to my embark and i have blacksmithing and furnace operating, so wells arent a prob! right next to a water source so i can make a small channel and some farming stuff.

The easiest way might be to modify the raws so you only get one starting dwarf and no immigration. Less death but leaves you more time and points.

You could always use a tool such as Dwarf Companion to kill 6 of your Dwarves.

Or Dtil, which has an embark editor, you can set yourself to 1 Dwarf.

*Yawn* Thats booooring :D

Besides wouldn't the vermin be able to support a single dwarf?

p.s. I vote for letting the 6 you want dead to idle for a couple months and become lovers/close friends, then I would kill 1 or 2 and watch the rest commit suicide.

Just go into your .int file and set your MAX POPULATION to 0, 1, or -1.

That should stop all migrants from spawning.

Otherwise if you like dealing with the hassle and micromanagement of killing all the migrant waves you could always build a big drawbridge, conscript all the migrants and atom smash them.

Not boring if you do it right.

Put the 6 into a 3x3 sealed vault. They'll get a little nourishment from vermin, but not enough to sustain them for terribly long. During that time in close encounter, they'll develop relationships and, lacking proper food/water/beds, in time one will likely go berserk.

Sort of a combination of Big Brother and Final Destination.

And Saw.

Too bad if you threw a weapon in there, they wouldn't use it automatically.

We do.  But it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

How about putting them in 10x10 room with a kitten and a pressure plate attached to a single wood upright spike trap. The trap isn't usually enough to kill, and the kitten will be chasing those vermin for food as well. Will the 6 dwarves get the butterfly before the kitten does, or will the kitten trip the trap and run someone through? Nobody knows!

Oh, I when you said "Youd want more than one tho" I thought you meant 1 dwarf a room.

You could set all of them as miners, woodcutters, or hunters. They wouldn't suddenly grab the weapon and try to kill each other, but they'd go after each other armed at least.

Edit: alternatively, your dwarf could go all Urist on them and let skeletal elephants crush all of the 6 dwarves.
