I'm sorry for starting an entire new topic for this, but there are no activate topics about darkfall and i did search, anyway i use ma dosbox after DLing from abandonia, loads up installation all good right? Well after selecting where i want to install from, where to install to, then it says to insert the floppy or ROM, and i dont have it.. So how do i play it?

Anyway, abandon ware is a game, that is not being sold by the company anymore.

Abandonware is illegal because while the company is no longer selling it, they (or someone else) still own the copyright to the game.

When mounting the directory with the installation files, do it like this:

mount D: <full directory path to installation files> -t cdrom label Darklands (label part possibly optional)

If you're having trouble with the interface (it's not exactly pretty) you can download DosShell which makes it a lot easier.

And it's my understanding that while abandonware is technically not legal, it is also not criminal as long as the copyright holder is not actively selling the game, meaning you can't be arrested or prosecuted for it.  Sort of how it's acceptable to smoke marijuana in Amsterdam but technically not legal.  (If I am wrong feel free to correct me.)

Nah, "abandonware" as far as I know is a legally-meaningless term. It simply doesn't make a difference whether or not it's being sold.

What might make a difference is the fact that often, with dev companies and publishers closing their doors all the time, it's not even clear who DOES own the rights to it, and the fact that the illegality of stuff like this tends to depend on the copyright holders actually caring. In this case, they almost certainly don't. And generally-speaking, abandonware sites (at least the reputable ones) do take things down when they receive requests from copyright holders.

So abandonware does often exist in a sort of limbo, but it's still technically under copyright and therefore still technically illegal.

heres what i put
mount D: C:\Dosgames\Darklands -t cdrom label Darklands

 thats the lines i entered, and when it asks where to install from i select D:, then when i try to intall TO i put C:\Dosgames\
