I dunno, if your girlfriend happens to be a certain kind of goth... she may already be wearing one.  It is creepy, but I suppose we don't really care what you do behind closed doors.

 The first one depresses me, while the second one... I'm neutral to. Doesn't creep me out, doesn't arouse me. I suppose it is just the idea of being involved with bdsm things that creeps people out. Come now, even in my horrible, horrible search for relevant images for this the collar was the least threatening thing. It's when the chains, gags, bounds and other crap gets involved that things get... weird.

 And Sofia, it appears you have a similar curse to me. We cannot post in a topic without horribly derailing it.

It's only really creepy if a majority of people aren't using it in a positive way. It's cognitive dissonance(?) That causes us to think certain ways about certain things. If you live in a family of mostly girls, you'd be influenced slightly or majorly depending on your base attributes, such as submissiveness.

So this girl might like the collar with or without the bell. If it's purely fashion then it's quite innocent. As long as there's no leash, well...

Skimming the thread, I'm surprised the word 'choker' has only come up once. It seems like a reasonably normal piece of jewelry to me, and I'm usually fairly conservative about such things. (Piercings, tattoos, etc. make me cringe at the mere thought. Even earrings, much less the exotic places that studs seem to show up in almost at random.)

I believe the reaction to this thread is pretty well proof that it's rather subjective. Seems like a judgement call to be made at the time, not filed away as something always acceptable or always unacceptable in 'polite society'.

It may also be a bit semantical, as the word 'collar' seems to have different connotations than 'choker' (apart from the reference to strangulation and the potential 'choke 'er? I don't even know 'er!' pun everyone just groaned over).

I'm definitely not the best person for an opinion on this, but I think it all comes down to why you want it and how those involved feel about it. A collar is a lot better than a tattoo though. (Note that the link doesn't really have anything to do with the subject)
