Do you buy "organic" meats and produce?  Do you consider the extra price a worthwhile trade-off for knowing that you're not eating steroids and pesticides?  Do you look down your nose at all those putrid slobs who cram alien flesh and withered vines down their diseased gullets?

Turns out, you were wrong wrong wrong!

The USDA "Organic" label was supposed to mean foods grown the old fashioned way, with none of that chemically induced growth crap and herbicides, and hopefully by way of that softer treatment will retain all the good stuff food is supposed to have.  Turns out, comprehensive studies have shown that "Organic" labeled food has no statistically significant greater amount of any real vitamins or nutrients than the normal stuff, and because agri-business lobbies have so thoroughly defanged the USDA inspectors board, foods can be treated with just about anything and still get the "Organic" label if you pay enough.

Like we cynics suspected, "Organic" doesn't really mean anything except paying twice as much for the same food.  So relax, health nuts, and get some Big Macs and Doritios.  'Cause you've really been eating them the whole time.

Just to clarify, this doesn't mean that no foods are unhealthy, and all dieticians are wrong.  It's just that the "organic" label means nothing (I'd rather get Free Range than organic eggs, for one thing).

Its been like this for a long time really, at least from what I can tell in America. I doubt you'd get away with it here in the UK though, since we only like ever grow potatoes and cabbages.

Did the one who decided that know ANYTHING about chemistry?

Hint: I highly doubt there is any inorganic food that a human could eat.

Organic = No synthetic additives.
 Because Americans are not dumb. We are just very, very talkative.

 And yes, there are a lot of issues with organic foods, from hurting the environment to this crap.

I have a vegetable patch in my backyard and I think it taste better than store bought, but it just might be because I eat it sooner?

Extra vitamins/minerals/more healthy?

Thats a new one to me.

I thought the whole point was that you could eat a apple that didn't have it's skin sprayed in pesticides.

Just (past tense: to read) a news-article about it, apparently they didn't check for presticide levels.

Anyway, free-range eggs and meat taste significantly better, as do fruit and vegetables that haven't been treated with DDT and shit. A good way to recognize untreated fruit is to see how it looks - healthy fruit usually looks crappy.
