Satyr Mod Request
« on: July 29, 2009, 07:39:34 pm »

EDIT:
Mod is made, long ago... But looking to see if someone can convert it to .34 version?

I am not sure if "Requests" are even allowed, but I figured this would be realtivly simple, or allready done, basically a mod to make "Satyrs" a civ you can trade with,

Satyrs are a male only creature, so unless you removed [MALE] from their creature entry, they wouldn't reproduce in worldgen; so far as I know, bestiality hasn't been implemented yet.  I'd be suprised if such a civ would even survive the first age.

I'll play with this and see what comes out... but weren't satyrs the antithesis of civilization?

At least in classic greek mythology, Satyrs were depicted as having both sexes (or having a female counterpart in the followers of Dionysus at least). The exact nature and name of said companions vary, Maenads, Nymphs, Bacchae, Satyresses, Fauna, etc. Take your pick.

I'll bite.

Any civ preferences? I'm probably going to do them like elves where they live in forests. None of that wood crap though.

Also, any special item stuff? Once again, they'll probably have elf-quality armor unless you want them to be stronger.

P.S. Satyrs in this game are both sexes.

P.P.S Wow that sounded wrong. I meant they can be either.

Finished in 27 minutes!

EDIT: There appears to be a bug that's causing satyrs to be blind and constantly in pain. I will look into this.

EDIT2: And it's fixed. Satyrs didn't have eyes in their original file. Ouch. I also decided to only let them wear thongs. Excellent.

You sir are a God! If you could make ware them Leather thongs that would be even better, Now at last my Fortress can have burly near naked Satyrs prancing about! Hazzah!

EDIT: Thinking about what satyrs would bring to trade, given their natural urge for partying and boozing, Their caravans should always have a large amount of wine/booze from all civs.

When I read the first edit I burst out laughing (waking up my lady, she's now very grumpy). That's one hell of a bug.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Oof. That's what I get for not actually playtesting my own mods.

First of all, satyrs are trading at the same time as elves, so they won't actually appear unless you've managed to go to war against the elves or they've already been extinct.

Secondly, they're still anal about wood, because I though [WOOD_PREF] instead of the [ETHICS:KILL_PLANT:UNACCEPTABLE] caused that behavior. Derp.

Basically, the previous versions are failures, sorry about that.

Anyway, I've went and cleared out most (if not all) bugs.

The satyrs now trade during Autumn, so they won't conflict with the existing elven traders during spring.
Satyrs should now be a bit tougher so they don't get slaughtered during worldgen battles. (They were weaker than elves)
Satyrs now accept wood and will use wagons.
Satyrs now send diplomats to let you request specific items (Yes, that means all types of booze).
Most importantly, satyrs now have food-themed names!

Just in case anyone was curious, the satyrs lost every single battle 40-something to 5, give or take a few. That's why the wars were all so short.

Weird... I've had no problems with multiple similar civs trading in the same season at the same time before.

Really? I couldn't get two different civ's wagons to show up in any season other than autumn, where they can appear along side dwarves.

The wiki seems to support this. It'd certainly be useful to have multiple wagons per season though.

I've got 3 civ wagons at the same time. Are you sure you have a contact with them? Because it works without a problem.

Yes @ multiple wagons. When adding hobgoblins and trolls I had them active all seasons but not babysnatchers. Much to my surprise they showed up in autumn with wagons(hobgoblins) and pack animals(trolls) at the same time as the dwarves and antmen(both with wagons) in autumn, then again with halflings(wagons) in winter, and again with elves(pack animals) in spring. I've since re-arranged things so I get 1 wagon and 1 pack animal caravan each season, but its definitely possible to have multiple wagon civs trading at the same time.

Well after playing it for a while I have to say it seems to be working fine, had a very lovely Carvan of Satyrs just recently, and have to say they seem to bring ONLY what i ask for, no ten lists of cloth and leather, or vast amounts of useless toys or crafts, just what I ask for, very use ful ")

They also seem to be badass. A goblin ambush happened just as the caravan was departing and One of the Satyr tackled it and actually lopped of both arms of a Goblin swordsman. THATS Balls for oyu.

My only complaint is that when you look at thier inventory, aside from the military ones, it shows nothing, Id been TOLD that thier sole piece of inventory was supposed to be "Leather Loincloth"
