Homestuck started out the same way, as a sort of text-input adventure game.  As with any adventure game, it needed to have an arbitrary and potentially confusing inventory system.

Guybrush Threepwood had his pants, John Egbert has his fetch modus cards.

Both Occam and Ockham are commonly used, actually.  Occam is the generally-accepted spelling, whereas Ockham is traditional.

The system itself isn't obtuse at all; you can grab any item whenever you want it. The wierd part is how he can fit an entire cannon, fishing rod, machete, gaff, tofu mask, large lump of cheese and dozens of other knicknacks in his pants (because they're really baggy).

Actually, He didn't even have pockets.  Just stuffed everything into his pants proper.  This resulted in some interesting reactions when he chose to pick up certain items, such as a fish or some chicken grease.

Then 'Occam' is essentially meaningless...  Would someone please explain to mehow exactly this happened?  At least with Aluminium, there's some reason behind it.  Even if it is a silly one.

Sir William of Ockham lived in the 1200s. English spelling did not really stabilize for several more centuries (consider how many ways there are to spell Shakespeare, and realize he's three centuries later.)

If he had bottomless (without a bottom ) pockets, then he was indeed just sticking them in his pants.
