Was there really not at least a year between when the comic started and when they got on the meteor?

It was slightly more than a day.

Yeah. Until the meteor, literally everything you saw took course in less than 24 hours (not counting, of course, the flashbacks). It's one of those wierd points of Homestuck chronology.

Yeah, and the density of events in that one day compared to those three years in between worlds is probably a commentary on perception of time and urgency. Or just A COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME. Actually, I'll go with the latter.

How far down to people read the thread after an update warning? Regardless...

Which was always Vriska's thing.  She embodies the idea that strong people come from hardship rather than comfort and other people.  She became a badass because she had to, to survive and feed her lusus.  She tried to help Tavros grow the same way.
Really, of all the Alternians, she's the one who acted most like an Alternian...  Buying into Doc Scratch's changes.  All the rest resisted it.

Aranea similarly seems to be an ideal Beforan, interestingly.

The Serkets being so malleable by their surroundings actually makes sense a bit when you take into account the nature of their psychic powers. Aranea dealt with it by attempting to make amends, even though that didn't really work by her own admission. Vriska on the other hand, favors the idea of 'I must MAKE them fear/respect/like/adknowledge me,' and ends up pushing that on others in her own exceedingly 8itchy way as a direct result.

No, no; Karkat argues with past/future him, but they're never alternates. This is a new schtick, it's different to the old schtick.
