Not all fraymotifs are combination attacks. Half of John's were solo.

I was going to make a pun involving the word "beat", but I can't think of any atm.

Given the "motif" part of the term and the general punniness of the individual names, they are definitely connected to music.

I guess there was to be some ultraviolent dance-off of epic proportions somewhere along the line, but it was skipped in favour of more troll romance and less working on flashes. Well, there is still the final bossfight..._{if Homestuck hasn't transcended childish concepts like action and fights yet}

That doesn't mean that the attacks are related to music. We've seen one high-ish end cooperative fraymotif and there was no dancing.
