I think the argument is less "Lord English could be someone else instead of Caliborn" and more "Lord English is not biologically a cherub", or perhaps "Lord English is a different instance of the Caliborn we're following".

I follow the school of thought that Caliborn made Lil Cal his horcurx. Having his soul residing in the doll would explain how he is able to possess Jack and hatch from Doc Scratch, if you're also willing to accept that Caliborn's Time Lord cherub voodoo curses are able to reach backwards across the doll's timeline. This would mean that there is no point where kid Caliborn becomes adult LE. He just sets up the Juju magic, and he can be all the Lord Englishes (Lords English?) without having to metamorphose his original body into anything.

I am not saying that anyone else is Lord English. Caliborn is definitely Lord English.

But Lord English is not Caliborn, he is just a puppet, a piece, controlled by Caliborn (and designed in such a way to be far more deadly than Caliborn's normal body is), and that it is very possible that Caliborn himself could continue to stick around, the same way that he is still around while controlling Jack - at that point, one could say they he IS, effectively, Jack English. But just like destroying Jack probably isn't going to do a thing to Caliborn, destroying Lord English won't do anything to stop the threat he poses either. Caliborn has access to all the time in the world to make another.

Lord English isn't actually an immortal demon, not in the way you might think. He can die. But even if he does, it doesn't actually matter, because he's not actually the bad guy, just a face Caliborn can slip on.

While I mostly just enjoy the ride and don't overthink the plot, I must agree with the LE isn't caliborn in the flesh theory.
I don't see how or why caliborn would get the cueball eyes, whereas we've already seen that they signify his mind controle powers. What I would like to know  then though is who or what was LE before he got mind controlled, if he wasn"t at one point. If there are multiple instances of LE spawning from scratch clearly he was somehow planted there, likely on purpose. By whom and for what purpose then.
I wouldn't be surprised if the explenation was another case of circular logic though, seems like a recurring plot device. Makes for some mindfuck.
But hey like I said, I try not to overthink it.
