Also Jack has reclaimed his rightful place as Main Villain.
Ironically by becoming host to the 'real' 'main' villain.
There are two kinds of twists in storytelling. One is: "Ha haa! Something happened that you didn't expect, and it may or may not have been an intentional act by a character, but what's important is that it advanced the plot!" This is the infamous shitty twist, and nobody likes those.
Then there's the other kind. No twist ever makes
perfect sense, because if it did you would have seen it coming and it wouldn't be a twist at all. But a good twist is one that is not
obviously telegraphed but makes
enough sense after it happens that you go, "Whoa, that makes a lot of sense."
We knew Gamzee was running around with malign intent and/or serving Lord English is some circuitous fashion. We knew the Cal doll had some weird ability to influence people's thoughts. We knew Lord English took a liking to it. Somehow, he figured out he could control people's minds with it, which not only made for an awesome way to bring him and Jack back into the story, but goes a long way towards explaining the Gamzee Question. And was seeded throughout the story (see what I did there) many months in advance to boot.
The cherry on top of course is Jack stabbing his eyes out in concatenation with the (wonderfully) maudlin shit going down in the text. For the first time in a while, this is a story I can get behind.
Now to figure out how the Meteor is going to arrive on Alpha Earth (Skaian portal attack probably), how an alien skull monster comes to live in it (exiling it with Jack aboard maybe?), and how the fuck Gamzee has been running around this whole time doing shit (probably not going to get an answer there). As far as I can recall, those are basically the only unanswered questions left aside from where and how Caliborn's junk got on the Meteor as well. In the meantime, Jane and Jake are probably about to Get Tiger if Jack's Englishpowers don't just obliterate them in the physical world the same way they do in dreams. Maybe Roxy and Dirk will become the first characters to ever Get Tiger fully intentionally.
Then, everybody out of the universe.
Also, Jack being bored as shit with his improvised fake tooth and mountain of parking tickets is fucking hilarious, and Roxy continues to have the best dialogue.
