Sorry man, you got the functions out. There is no backing out. We are in this bitch together now, RE: infinitesimal calculus.
Speaking of which: what exactly are WQ's plans in all this? I was sure she had designs for Jack, but now she is using him as a pledge in a petty honour struggle? okay, Bismarck smashed France that way back in 1877, but somehow I think history would have run a different course if France had have access to a fleet of space ships and mechas.

Well, since the Condesce isn't exactly a complicated character, Prospit won't loose Jack's wholesome presence anyway. Probably just a double tracking strategy, keeping the Dersites distracted.

the jack ruse was a

DISTACTION !?!

I assume White Queen does have a plan, and right now that plan involves pissing off the Condesce as much as is trolly possible.

Also, prepare. The next month of updates will be nothing but Jack filing paperwork in a (literally) gilded cage.

The point of the Pi=4 fallacy is not that the limit shape will somehow not be a circle, it's that the limit of a sequence of shapes, functions, etc. need not share the properties of the members of the sequence.

For a simple demonstration of this phenomenon, consider the sequence of functions defined by:

fn(x) = { 1/n       0 <= x <= n
             0           otherwise

Where n is a natural number and examine the integral on all of R. Each function in the sequence has an area of 1, but the limit function is identically f(x) = 0 whose area is obviously 0.

Dude, you just tried to use a piecewise function as your example for a limit having a different value than the endpoint.  Bad form, man.

The 'obvious' limit as n goes to zero is just as easily the dirac delta function... which has an integral of 1.

The funny thing about how Caliborn draws a circle is that he's exactly correct in that no matter how small he makes segments meeting at right angles, it will always be a fake circle that will simply fool people. It's the Pi=4 fallacy!

He's only exactly correct in the finite case. In the infinite case, he'll have a circle, because the limit shape of the sequence of shapes he's constructing will be a circle.

The point of the Pi=4 fallacy is not that the limit shape will somehow not be a circle.
Actually, it won't be a circle. It will be an n-gon with the radius and area of a circle, but the perimeter/circumference will be off. This is mainly because infinitesimally small lines are still indeed lines, while a point is a point.

Vi Hart can explain it better.

Time to change the thread title to geometry stuck.

And it looks like everyone will be arriving tomorrow, just when Derse is ready to bother the kids again.

Totally freakin' bald, and by choice I guess?  Something?  Doesn't seem that concerned about anything, that really strange.

Also, completely unexpected reuse of Dave's "heavily-lit elevator" animation.

I really really like this instance of the Dignitary. He is the coolest ever.

I was expecting a bait and switch with Dead Dad, but not to this degree. Should have seen it coming.

How does a man so violent that his various incarnations have destroyed entire universes and who kills to ease boredom have the patience to perform any amount of paperwork, and evidently be really, really good at it?

He has to have gotten his job somehow. He really just seems like he needs something to do. This is also the guy who could pass the time by spending hours honing his knife, a basic repetitive task. The problem seems to come about when he's "let off his leash", if you will.

Also, I suspect he may have resolved much of that paperwork through violence.

I wonder, now that I think about it, if that's just Dad's body, set up and posed, and the Dignitary is just ascribing a desire for tobacco to this now non-living object.

Hussie's done this before, hasn't he? Or at least something similar, what with Grandpa Harley's taxidermied corpse and all.
