So, is Erisol trying to save Jake's forgetful ass or is he trying to stir up more disastous heartbreak? Or is he just a half-schizoid half-bipolar double-apathetic joke of a character doing what the moment and the teen drama subplot tell him?

Questions for the ages.

I am pretty sure Jake will handle this dumping/spurning Dirk thing... if not well, at least acceptably. Rufio...h wouldn't have been introduced in the way he was if Jake was to repeat his failure.
How Dirk will deal with it... we will see.

I would say you're right, and that this is more Bard-y than Prince-y, but Eridan was the Prince of Hope, and he lost all his. Broken Hope isn't really a phrase or a thing people say though.

On the other hand, Eri was always hopeless.
