Odds are this is probably like the thousandth time John has played this movie. And, wow, the imps are willing to stop screwing around for movie night. Cool.

I guess that's because of their trickster-prototyping? They seem much more versed in sabotage and demoralization than in open combat. Compare the troll's imps, which were prototyped with an egregious amount of terrifying fauna.

Now I think you are right anyway, underlings probably aren't designed to be real antagonists, at least not on a greater scale... the roles and intentions of the denizens are much too eclectic for that.
