That spambot had good taste in posters to randomly quote.

as opposed to Problem Sleuth, which quickly degenerated into batshitinsaneland

Ha ha, if only I knew.

If only you knew. I skipped almost ALL the pesterlogs on my way through, and i only figured out some of what was going on by spending inordinate amounts of time on the wiki afterwards. You'd be better off reading them.

Did it add a link to the end or something?

I hope that i'm not missing out on anything important by skipping the trolls...

Yes. You are. You're missing out on a huge and increasingly important part of the story. You'll be able to understand the stuff immediately after the trolls end, but you'll quickly not understand what anyone's talking about.

I really don't know why anyone skips huge chunks of the story. What would make people think skipping any significant amount of any story wasn't going to have a significant impact on your reading experience?

Incalculable hubris, clearly. Come on, the explanation is right there in the name.

I've managed to get a couple people interested in reading Homestuck. One of them decided to start skipping the flash animations as well as the pesterlogs. He skipped [S] Descend because he thought it was just Dave being Dave (and for some reason he doesn't like Dave, what a strange sense of taste). I'm pretty sure he still hasn't read large parts of the troll arc.

Huh.  uu reads like Karkat, Equius, Gamzee, and a little Eridan all mixed together, but lacking any redeeming qualities whatsoever.  I still prefer him to UU, as he doesn't read like a fake POS.  Man, Juju is quite possibly the stupidest word for such a neat concept, i.e. the bunny and cal, and to a lesser extent, the heirloom weapons.

I suppose people read for different reasons.  I only got through Act 1 because I had already seen the Strider fight flashes, and when I finished it, I didn't start Act 2 until months later (after reading Problem Sleuth).  The inventory management was cute at first, but I got tired of it really fast.  The pesterlogs weren't as good back then either (rereading, it's easy to see how Hussie's dialogue writing has improved).  Everything was setup without apparent payoff, like the tutorial section of a game.

I guess I'm just letting off frustration (none of my family were able to complete Act 1) but at this point I'd suggest a new reader to skip Act 1 altogether, at least at first.  Act 2 basically starts with a tutorial anyway, the interactive (!) bit where WV asks what everything is.  Far more interesting I think.  Either that or start with Hivebent, where the writing is better and the fast pace glosses over boring detail.  Not everyone has the time nor inclination to read and reread all that cruft for clues!

^ Though if the comic itself tells you it's a past conversation, I see no problem with not rereading it. It would be helpful to do so, though. I don't do it myself because I catch myself tuning everything out as I read it because I have already read it.

sacrilege! anathema!
...well, whatever works best for people, I guess. But I was never a fan of skippin' forward.

Yeah, uu is angry, articulate, crazy, and a little irrelevant. For some reason I hope that UU is a doublefaced traitor. All this helpfulness and cheerfulness and exposition...like Feferi without oh-so-many teeth or Aradia without severe mental trauma... uu's red herring rant may very well encrypt the simple fact that not he is the dangerous one of them.

And if they whip it out Fight Club style- well, I don't have a single doUUbt who would be the one left standing.
Or a third fragment, as hinted by the chained-Calmassis frame in the last flash animation... but that would be stupid, because it would basically be Gamzee in reverse and also introduce a 3rd character we have no reason yet to care about. Roses wizard-fic is no reason to care about a characterexcept Frigglish!

I think that if you need to skip chunks of the story, you should probably just stop reading Homestuck. I don't mean it like "get out of the fandom", more like "stop listening to MSPA fanboys, you don't have to read homestuck, especially if you don't like it".

Okay, so UU's demands of pornography/games is apparently a callback/shout out to this thread.

I'm afraid to read it.
