I think the thing is that I feel kind of put off by the lack of ongoing character development.  It feels sort of like we have some characters who do a bunch of "leveling up," and then rather than work with any sort of serious ongoing problem and its aftermath we cut to another bunch of characters (rinse and repeat).  I get attached to someone and then they pretty much disappear from the story.

True that. John and Co. get their spotlights taken away from them and Hussie adds some new characters, which I honestly don't care about (well, maybe only slightly), to keep the story going.

Problem with this is that there's going to be a huge wall of exposition incoming, exposition which I tend to skip because they tend to get long-winded.

To me, they new characters are harder to invest in just because they're harder to understand.  And yeah, I want to get back to the old characters too, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm not reading a whole story.  I'm just enjoying a daily surprise, and honestly expecting the end of the story to be quite a ways off, with plenty of time for character development and multiple spotlights in the mean time.

I would appreciate it if Hussie would stop screwing around with so many different plot lines at the same time.  At some point, you do actually have to resolve some stuff, and there's quite a few interesting but pointless things that could be taken to their conclusion sooner rather than later.  I'm looking at you, author-insert.

It hasn't changed. The novelty has just worn off. It always baffles me a little to see people attempting to dictate that X Internet Thing is TERRIBLE NOW when it USED TO BE AMAZING and as far as I can tell the quality is consistent.

Depends what you're looking for. Very very few ongoing things don't change over time, and I doubt Homestuck is an exception.

The people saying that probably just aren't being catered to as much. Homestuck got a lot more serious than it was in the beginning, no? Those who just want a laugh are of course going to say it's gone downhill, and they're not wrong (at least as far as the aspects they care about are concerned).

It's people saying this that I don't get.  Shenanigans like the last Intermission and some of the Jake conversations were the funniest the comic's been in more than a year.  I'm really not sure what there is to complain about, aside from the somewhat unraveling plot and not seeing the old characters much.

Actually, for me it's "X internet thing would be amazing if there were slightly less of it."

I really would like Homestuck if it were, oh, actually marketed as three stories that happened to interlock a little as opposed to One Enormous Story That Never Ends.  I feel like I sit down for one story, get used to something, start to like the characters and instead of getting the catharsis of the story climaxing and the dang thing ending we hop off to do something else over in goodness knows where.

Not everyone laughs at the same thing. If you don't see anything to complain about, you must be mistaking all this for something objective instead of subjective I'm certain there are plenty out there that would disagree about when the comic's been funniest, past year or earlier.

I'm just saying that if what you're complaining about is a lack of humor, compared to what Homestuck has had in the past, then what the comic has had recently is a lot of the same style of humor.  So there.

Also, update.  I knew Jane was going to pick up and destroy some critical object, but I didn't think it'd be in less than a dozen panels.  There you go folks, quick resolution!
