A few Quick non-spoilerish Notes to keep in mind:
1. That Mayor dude isn't Human, if you'd paid more attention, you would notice he has a carapace.
2. The circle thing is a Spirograph.
3. There's four kids.
4. The comic will get more insane as you go in.

End of Act 2, eh?
if you aren't already hooked yet, you will be soon. At this point it's rather improbable that you will develop a strong dislike of the style.
But take your time, don't rush it. The story is even more intricated than it seems.
Whenever there is a disruption in the flow of the story- when a new character is introduced, or the Act 3 Intermission, or Act 5.1- don't power through it as quick as possible, take a break for a day or two, then  read it carefully.
Don't forget that Homestuck is two things first: A work of humour(especially satire) and an experiment.
Part of the experiment is the occasional breaking of standard rules for storytelling that are widely agreed upon; another part is the constant extension of the scope of the story.
Both of this techniques fail as often as they success, but if they success... well, it's magnificient.

Don't get obsessed with it (there are enough crazy fans already) and don't feel offended because some detail contradicts your idea of good storytelling.
It's gonna work out in the end, we all are pretty sure.
