Your ring finger is not your middle finger. I'm pretty sure the ring finger is the normal one.

Haha, I knew there must be at least one other person out there who admits to not being able to snap their fingers! Knew it!

Haha, I can snap (with my middle finger) but I cannot for the life of me whistle.  I have tried so hard.

I fail to see how the motions would be different even with three inch nails. I'm looking at my hand, an in no place do I see where the nails would extend into anything but open space.

Well, technically, my ring finger is against the pad of my thumb, and the middle finger hits the join between them.

I snap like Japa, sort of; the middle finger slaps down right where my ring finger rests on the meaty bit of the palm that turns into the thumb. I don't think it's solely hitting the ring finger, because when I snap them enough, my palm also shows a mark, but at the same time, if I remove my ring finger, it only just barely makes any noise...
